The Best Money We Spend...

Here are a couple sites we subscribe to and use daily to know when to Pull The Trigger for Buy/Sell Orders.

Trading Mindset...

I wouldn't be Trading if I didn't have fun.  I'd be helping more in the Redevelopment Company my Partner runs.  It's not the absolute "Fun House" it was in 2009, but I am still having a good time.  It's pressure on me, as GP, to keep Trending Upward for our Investment Clique; but, so far, so good.
No Investor can afford to be passive, even (especially with) with Broker Managed Accounts.
  1. The most important advice I give (besides the ubiquitous: "GET IN") is to dicipline yourself to tradeGet into the Trading Habit: set aside a certain amount of time for Researching Stocks, reviewing your Portfolios, and BUY/SELL.
  2. I can't imagine not checking Ports, at least, on an Open/Noon/Close/9PM Sched, but I've heard of people doing okay with a once-a-week check [I'd jump off the top of the Empire State Building if we were doing "okay"].
  3. Create a Set Schedule for researching stocks, and keep it.
  4. Try and find someone with an interest in The Market to share info with.  Going it alone is fine, but it's good to have the feedback.

Beginning: Watchlists and Portfolio Tracking...

Whether you already have Stocks or are Tracking R&B, these two are the Best FREE Sites for Consolidated Watchlists:

You've propably signed up for access to these Search Engines already, now put "Finance" to work for you.  Yahoo is the better of the two, esp for Pre- and Post- Market, but Google has better Headlines.  Yahoo offers Real-Time Quotes for 11 bucks a month, but you'll learn where to get this for free when you open an account in the "Broker" Post below.

Add a Couple E-Mail Addresses for R&D...

I'll be giving some Leads for access to General Knowledge and R&D in another Post.  Something I have found invaluable in receiving info and Alerts on companies and The Market is opening a couple DEDICATED E-Mail Addresses with specific content.
I lead compartmentalized life, anyway; but when I open e-mail, I like to know what my mindset and attitude are going to be.
One hardly need know what time a friend's birthday party is or how a cousin is getting along while they're Tracking the Market or Reviewing an Alert!  Talk about a break in concentration!
My personal e-mail addresses will never have any Market/Business info in them.  Conversely, business-oriented e-mail addresses will never have a buddy saying "Hey" or asking "What's hap?".  I'd never think of opening  addresses Friends & Family send to while I'm doing Market Research.  But if I am in need of a smile, Friends & Family news is just a click away.
Note: Best not to even give your f&f R&D addresses.

My choice is Windows LIVE Hotmail.  They've a clean and easy format and don't seem to mind if I have more than one address from them.  Get started, today; here's the link:  Windows LIVE Hotmail.  You'l have the added benefit of Sky Drive Access.  Check it out!

(Windows also has "LIVE Mail", it's more "slick and sophisticated" than the general format of Hotmail.  As usual, this Ol' Geezer prefers the KISS format of Hotmail)
(Oh yeah kids, before I get those "Huh?" Comments I find exasperating; KISS has nothing to do with the band. [link])

And, after all that, you may need this: NOTIFIER 2 (even with your current e-mail provider)

Online Brokerages will provide a plethora of complimentary investment tools from Real-time Quotes to BUY/SELL Ratings.  I like the formats of TD and Scott best.

Now for an opnion about Broker Managed Accounts.  We are not In Mutual Funds or any other Broker Managed Fund.  We do, however, have Brokers handling assets in larger Holding Portfolios.
If you have Mutuals, your Broker is getting his cut from the management fees.  If he is only the Broker for individual stocks, he only makes money when you trade.
- Mutuals are for those who don't want to keep track of their ports and prefer the "diversity" of the holdings within the fund.  Not a bad idea if you're satisfied with and annual 6-10%.  Even sounds okay until you realize the Gain is BEFORE Taxes and Management Fees.
Anyone with a bit of Market Savvy can create their own "mutual fund" by diversifying their own Ports.  Picking a Sector and buying 3-4 Positions in it.  You've the control to sell out non performers and replace them.
- Another route some investors choose is to take advice from their Brokers.  "Enter at your own risk".

(* we do not have accounts with these brokerages)

General Knowledge and R&B ("Research and Buy")...

Too much information won't be good for your Investment Experience.  Don't drive yourself crazy secondguessing every trade based on Analysis.  Shortcut a couple sites and File the others to be used as "Devil's Advocate" Sites.

A note on Subscribed Sites: Don't waste money subscibing to sites when you're just beginning your Investment Experience.  There's enough free stuff (Alerts-Bells and Whistles) out there to do well.  When you've some success under your belt; then, you'll need more advanced advisement.  Our rule of thumb is: monthly fees cannot exceed 5% of profit.
